kickstart employee

The Kickstart Scheme was set up by the government to help young people gain employment and new skills within the workplace. Open to 16–24-year-olds on Universal Credits, the £2 billion scheme forms part of the government’s Plan for Jobs.

When did the Kickstart Scheme begin?

6-month placements are now open to 16–24-year old’s claiming Universal Credits, and who are deemed to be at risk of long-term unemployment. Available across a range of sectors throughout England, Scotland and Wales, the scheme was launched by Rishi Sunak in July 2020 and is set to run until December 2021.

What does the Kickstart Scheme do for employers?

Employers that have applied for the scheme will receive funding for 100% of the relevant National Minimum Wage for 25 hours a week, as well as associated employer National Insurance Contributions and employer minimum auto-enrolment pension contributions. Additional funding is also provided to support young people and help them enter sustained employment once their Kickstart funded job has been completed.
